Saving a Buck: Diamonds you can afford
OKLAHOMA CITY -- For Jenny Villarreal and her husband Ricardo their wedding was on a perfect day in April, and for his bride to be Ricardo needed a ring that represented her inner and outer beauty.

"I wanted to make sure that it was special," said Ricardo.

But because of a modest budget, and high prices his wife's engagement ring almost didn't happen.

"She is getting a band and no diamonds," said Ricardo.

But luckily for Ricardo a friend recommended a local diamond wholesaler.

"The single biggest mistake (people make) is spending to much money," said Rick Lingerfelt the owner of Direct Diamonds. "We do everything that a full jewelry store does but we do it 50 to 60 percent less in some cases."

Their gem stones GIA and EGL certified. Lingerfelt claims he can sell diamonds for nearly 50 percent cheaper because of low overhead.

One of his two-carat round diamonds almost $7,000 less then the suggested retail price.

"We are direct importers we have special relationships with diamond cutters and jewelry manufacturers," said Lingerfelt

The company also creates custom designs, turning a picture into a 3-d image that can then be transformed into a designer ring"

"Same color same clarity and its cost several thousands less from what they could have gotten from the retail store," said Lingerfelt.

The same result Ricardo was hoping for him when he asked Jenny to marry him.

"She's going to have it forever so I wanted to make sure like I said I did it right, and I hope she was proud of me," said Ricardo.

"I love it, it's perfect," said Jenny. "I like that it's sparkly I mean it's everything I wanted."
