Her 24-year-old son, Tyler Ryan, lost his leg trying to help a stranded motorist.
According to Coleman, "It's just the way he is. Always doing things for people, always. Always helping somebody."
It was just before dark.
Morshed Khandaker was changing a flat tire near 15th St. and Santa Fe when Tyler pulled over the help.
Without warning, an inattentive driver plowed into the car.
Tyler pushed the complete stranger out of harm's way as he was sandwiched in between the crushed metal.
Khandaker said, "He was my guardian angel. I believe that. I should be dead."
Tyler has undergone several surgeries since the collision, including the amputation of his left leg.
And yet, Tyler's thoughts are not on himself.
Khandaker said when he went to visit Tyler in the hospital, "The first thing he asked, 'how am I doing?' He was more concerned about me. Then he asked, 'how is your car?'"
Ryan will undergo at least two more surgeries on his left leg before leaving he hospital.
His family says he's in remarkably good spirits.
