OKLAHOMA CITY -- Dr. Charles Bryant is on the cutting edge of hip replacements. The Oklahoma City Orthopedic surgeon helped develop a new prosthesis for patients who suffer from arthritic hips. Dr. Bryant says, "The implant is considerably smaller than a traditional stem aand is installed using an anterior approach." A small incision is made up front, sparing bone and tissue.

Medical experts say the recovery time is also faster using this technique.

Michael Bennett, 58, was the first Oklahoma City patient to receive the new implant.

The cycling enthusiast hopes, "The operation will enable me to trade in my limp for a ride around Lake Hefner in the near future."

The procedure is similar to the surgery News Channel 4's Linda Cavanaugh recently had in California.

She was out of the hospital in 48 hours and back to work a week later!
