4-year-old found in convenience store alone
MIDWEST CITY, OK -- It was kind of reversed amber alert where this time police had the boy, not the parents. And tonight, they're still trying to learn the story behind this strange "missing parent" story.

Midwest City Police say a small boy, wandered into the 7-11 on N.E. 10th and Oak Grove Wednesday afternoon. Store surveillance footage shows him walking in with no shoes, alone. They say a store clerk tried to talk to him, but without much response, called police.

Chief Brandon Clabes said, "Doesn't know his address, phone number, we think he said his first name was Ben but could be mistaken on that too."

Police say he wasn't able to tell them where home was for lack of verbal skills. And without anyone reporting him missing, they cared for him in the police department's care room - the place children stay while DHS plans are made.

The stepfather claims he took a shower at Silverwood Apartments where they live and when he came out the boy was gone. He tells police he looked for the boy for two hours and then called police, which was at 5 p.m. Police say that story isn't consistent with the fact that the boy was at 7-11 at noon. Police tell us the mother was at work at the time. The boy remains in DHS custody.
