STILLWATER, OK -- An Amber alert was issued in Stillwater. It turns out to be a false alarm. An 8-year-old girl claimed her 12-year-old sister had been abducted in front of their home by a man in a red car.
Authorities quickly issued a state wide Amber alert for Micah Michelle James. A short time later the 8-year-old admitted it was all a hoax. Her sister had actually runaway from home.
Stillwater police don't regret the way they handled the case.
"You know, we don't like to use extra resources, but if this unfolded tomorrow, we'll handle it the exact same way," said Randy Dickerson, a captain with the Stillwater Police Department.
As an added twist to the story, during the search, police found a red car matching the description given by the 8-year-old. Inside the home police found a working meth lab and arrested the suspected drug dealer.
