OKLAHOMA CITY -- Street crews in Oklahoma City are getting ready for the surprise spring blizzard. At the same time, March Madness is in full swing in downtown. Many basketball fans say they're letting the possible bad weather get them down. "Oh it's beautiful. I shouldn't be wearing this sweatshirt, but its the only K-State thing I had on me," said Tim Rarick. On the other hand, one business owner renting segways on the sidewalks of Bricktown admits the storm will put a dent in his bottom line.
"The segway doesn't operate in snow, it's not safe. So it looks like Saturday is a no go," said Skip Knowles.
Street superintendent Mike DeGiacomo says his biggest concern is that strong winds will lead to lots of blowing and drifting snow.
During the Christmas Eve blizzard, huge drifts left roads and highways impassable.
"You can drive on ice. It's not a good idea but you can do it. It's the same with snow, but when you get drifts, you can't drive through a drift," says DeGiacomo.
The city has 21 trucks ready to roll.
Starting at midnight street crews will be on standby.
