Custody battle leads to a woman's death
OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City woman is dead after she was shot outside of her home in the 3300 block of North Utah early Wednesday morning.

"I saw the neighbor two houses down come out of her house and was followed immediately by a gentleman who was carrying a shotgun. She slipped and fell, but she stayed their life less," says Charles Wentz an eye witness.

According to police the alleged shooter Patrick Vaught would drive to his parents' home near Yukon just minutes after the shooting.

After a seven hour standoff with law enforcement, officers would forced their way inside, but some how Vaught slipped out the back door and into some nearby woods.

"Air one was able to locate something that they thought was suspicious they directed officers there to this location and they did locate our suspect and he was deceased and had committed suicide," says Jennifer Wardlow with Oklahoma City Police Department.

According to court records the couples were in a lengthy custody battle, but at this time investigators are not releasing a motive for the crime.
