EDMOND, OK -- They're still tap dancing at the Edmond Senior Center. They're also still playing pool and card games. However, they're no longer enjoying a low-cost meal through the Oklahoma County Senior Nutrition Program. "In the last two weeks, I've forgotten to have lunch because there's no lunch here," says Marilyn Williams, who used to share the lunch program with friends.
The Edmond Senior Center Nutrition Site no longer provides lunch, which carried a "suggested" cost of $1.50, due to state budget cuts.
Declining state revenue is why the Commission for Human Services shaved $14.6 million off its budget.
That led to the Aging Services Division, which includes the senior nutrition program, absorbing the largest budget shortfall at $7.4 million.
