McLOUD, OK -- Earlier this week a fireworks stand near McLoud became the target of thieves. McLoud Police say two men have been arrested, Robert Wester and William Wester.
They were caught hauling more than $1,000 worth of fireworks from the Spirit of America Fireworks stand. An officer patrolling the area just happened to see the two in the act.
He stopped and was able to take them in to custody and return the items they had taken. One of the stand owners was asleep in the back of the tent at the time.
That man's wife, Julia Jackson, says things could have been much worse. The sleeping man had a shotgun next to him, and one of the suspects was armed with a knife.
Jackson says her husband did not wake up until police had already apprehended the suspects. She says if her husband had woken up during the robbery someone could have been seriously hurt.
Both suspects were arrested and taken to the Pottawatomie County Jail.
