EDMOND, OK -- What looked like a life-threatening accident Monday night, now has a happy ending. Two little girls, who were trying to get a glimpse of an apartment complex fire near Covell and Kelly in Edmond, were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
7-year-old LaShay Patterson and 6-year-old Annicia Dotson were hit on Covell road by an SUV whose driver, police say, was not speeding and did not receive a citation.
LaShay's parents say she suffered a concussion and Annicia was bleeding from the mouth.
Both were transported to Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.
"All I can remember doing is taking off running," says LaShay's mother, Tiffany Franklin, "and that's it. I finally got up there, saw them laying in the street and thought 'Oh my God, these kids ain't going to be able to walk.'"
Fortunately, both girls were released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
LaShay had visible scarring on her face from the impact.
Franklin, however, says her daughter is back to normal because she's already talking about food.
Police say the traffic congestion caused by onlookers made it difficult for medical help to reach the girls.
