SHAWNEE, OK -- A family believes they were the target of a possible scam. They say someone called their house posing as an employee with the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security offering them a free security system. All they needed to do was sign up and provide some personal information. "It just sounded very suspicious to me, it didn't sound like something that was on the up and up," says Loretta Gaines.
The Office of Homeland Security says it does not offer a program giving away free security systems.
The Office also doesn't call people at their homes.
"Obviously, this couple that this has happened to was fairly prepared and able to recognize that this was unusual and they reported it to someone," says Director Kerry Pettingill.
The family is planning on filing a police report to document the incident.
Meanwhile the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security says it's also looking into the matter.
