OKLAHOMA CITY -- According to city officials, a young horse is recovering from a wild ordeal after she fell out of a trailer and ran into oncoming traffic along I-44 on Thursday.A day later, Dr. Mike Johnston and his colleagues are nursing her back to health and say the filly only suffered a few bumps and bruises on her legs and back.

"She was really sore and reluctant to move last night and I placed her right here and she didn't move for a couple hours that's to be expected," said Johnston. "She's a little moody. I believe if I fell out of a truck, I would be a little moody today too."

After being corralled by Animal Welfare and a group of good Samaritans along Northwest 36th Street, city officials assumed that the horse's owner would have come forward by now, but that hasn't been the case.

Investigators are also getting a better understanding of what happened.

"The gate on the back fell open and the horse jumped out of the trailer. They pulled further up, closed the back trailer gate and just drove off and just left the horse to run on the highway," said Rodney Pesch with Animal Welfare.

And if those accusations are true, charges could be filed against the owner if they're caught.

"It will have to be investigated and we would have to look into to see what was going on but there maybe a possibility of that."

If the owner doesn't come forward in the next five days, the horse will be put up for adoption.
