LANGSTON, OK -- Several Langston University students are angry after they say they've been battling for basic services for years and are tired of coming up short. The students prepared several pages of issues and presented their concerns to university leaders. They also gathered hundreds of signatures on a petition for change. It's a place flowing with change; a place where students from all over the country come for a unique learning experience, but there are a several changes some students say just aren't up to par.

"We are the only historically black college and university in the state of Oklahoma and we're asking for very basic things," Langston University student body president Javon Brame said.

These basic things include campus mail services and a student union.

"We as students can't receive US postal service mail on campus," Brame said. "We have to go purchase post office boxes here in the town of Langston. After doing our research, we know that there are not enough post office boxes for our entire student body."

Brame says the students asked for student mail more than 2 years ago, but are still waiting on it and another common commodity on college campuses.

"OSU just announced a $60 million renovation of their student union and it's a 10-month project," Brame said. "Our renovation was $4 million and we're going on 3 years."

It's an ongoing project these students say doesn't look good when they try to recruit new students.

"When someone comes to your university, they don't want to see something that's not done," Langston student Joshua Clark said.

School officials say they've been working with students to come up with a solution.

"This is the voice of one group of students, not the whole student body," Director of Media Relations Coordinator Ashley Gibson said. "If they have issues with the institution, we'll continue what we've been doing and that is to share in the process with them and helping them reach a resolve."

School officials say they'll work with student groups to resolve the issues.
