MINCO, OK -- Students in Minco are hearing nothing but sour notes after budget cuts crippled their music program. According to Band Director Kelli Morrison, nearly half of the school's 120 band members still need musical instruments for this school year. Since taking over the position, Morrison has pieced together a few trumpets using old parts and haggled with government officials to get used Army instruments.

"We've had about 65 to 70 kids that needed instruments and at the beginning of the year I was able to hand out 15," said Morrison. "It's going to be a real hardship if we can't get the instruments in."

School officials are now begging for Oklahomans to donate old instruments.

"It's not that we don't want to spend money, it's just very difficult when you lose $200,000 out of your budget to purchase things like this," said Superintendent Kevin Sims.

If you would like the help the Minco band, call at (405) 352-4377 and a school official will pick up the instrument.
