MIDWEST CITY -- Another sign of the economic times; there's now a rise in the reported number of permanent birth control procedures as some are not confident about their financial future.

As much as Stacy Klepac enjoys her daughter and bragging about her at the office, news of a shaky economy has her unsure about a baby brother or sister for Emery.

Stacy Klepac said, "I love her to death, but we've talked about, 'if we want another one with the high cost of daycare and altogether raising a child.'

A concern parents have in any economy, but especially now. Experts tell us birthrates generally decline during an economic downturn. With that, doctors are seeing an interesting trend - a reported increase in the number of vasectomies, tubal ligations and Essure micro-insert procedures.

Dr. Brant Buchinger of Renaissance Physicians in Midwest City says he's seen more moms like Stacy entertain the thought of permanent birth control -- directly related to finances.

Dr. Brant Buchinger said, "A lot of women are considering the idea of permanent birth control more seriously. We all know & data indicates it's very expensive to raise a child."
