Pilot's License Deadline
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Some Oklahoma pilots say they didn't get enough warning about needing to get a new pilot's license by March 31. Pilot Gene McMillen says, "The FAA is putting a requirement on pilots but they are not telling the pilots there is a requirement." A pilot's certificate never expires. However, the FAA is mandating that pilots get a new plastic license to replace the paper one by the end of the month.

They can apply on-line or by mail and the cost is only $2.

The Federal Aviation Administration says they are doing this for durability and security.

Spokesperson Roland Herwig also says it should be no surprise for pilots.

"We've been working on this since 2003 we've been starting to convert and by now over 90 percent of pilots have converted."

McMillen believes too many people still don't know about it and worries about what could happen.

"To be caught flying without a valid license is worth $10,000 and a year in jail," McMillen said.
