Norman, OK - Kickoff for the Sooners and Cowboys football season is just days away. Unfortunately, this year both schools have been forced to toss some decade old traditions to the side.
In Norman, the Big Red Rally has been canceled. The annual event is held before O-U's first game.
"It's real disappointing. I think it's a good way to start the school year get everyone excited," said Emerald Messo.
"You know I wish they could've had it," said Garrett Freeman.
In Stillwater, the Oranage Peel has been called off. Each year that event drew thousands of fans to watch comedy and musical acts.
Both events were lost this year because of budget cuts and increased costs. Less money and fewer sponsorships simply made the events too expensive. Regardless of the missing pep rallies, most students know the real excitement happens on Saturday's, not the night before.
"It's a fun side event but the season itself it really exciting," said Freeman.
Both events could be brought back in future years. It all depends on having better budgets.
