HUNTER, OK -- A wild confrontation puts four people behind bars. When it was all over, one person had been run over, two others beaten and another kidnapped. It was a series of events that pitted relative against relative and ended with two people in the hospital. Children's toys, appliances and even a John Deere tractor litter the front yard. But not long ago, this is where 37-year-old Teresa Winton was run over by a relative.
"One of the residents of the home was struck by a motor vehicle in the front yard and she was taken to the ER," Garfield County Undersheriff Jerry Niles said.
But when Winton and her family got back from the hospital, she says $56 was missing from her home and there were only two people who could have taken it.
What happened next is, what lawmen say, Winton and her family did to the woman they believe took the money; they confronted her, then kicked and beat her with a chain.
"She was forced into into a truck and taken from the residence to a location west of Hunter," Niles said.
That's when she was dumped off at a desolate intersection.
Hours later was finally able to walk about 3 miles before a passerby stopped to help.
"We made contact with a white female who had physical injuries to her face and arms and was bleeding from her nose," Niles said.
The man who was with her at the home was also beaten and found the next morning hiding in a field.
Authorities then searched the house; they found drugs and children living in filth.
"There were four sheriff's cars and two cars from DHS" a neighbor said.
"There were feces, trash and clothes everywhere," Niles said. "There were sections of the floor that were rotted where you could see through to the ground."
Winton, along with her husband, 34-year-old Nathaniel Winton, 36-year-old Nina Baker and 22-year-old Robert Devries were all taken to jail.
"I never really thought they would hurt anybody," a neighbor said.
All four people are facing several charges including child endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.
Both victims are home recovering.
The children are in DHS custody.
