School websites falling short
OKLAHOMA CITY -- A new study conducted by the group Oklahomans For Responsible Government, known as OFRG, finds that Oklahoma school district websites don't have enough information available to taxpayers. The study took three months and included 10 criteria. Out of 531 school districts, 79 had no website at all.

OFRG says they were most shocked by the fact that 59 school districts that employ tech directors had no website at all. The State Superintendent's office explained that there are no funds for websites.

The Office's spokesperson Shelly Hickman also explained, "The title tech director is a little misleading. In some districts it's a teacher who has extra duties. In a lot of cases it's a company they're working with to make sure all of their hardware is functioning."

Brian Downs, Executive Director of OFRG, believes this is a wake-up call. He says, "I think taxpayers need to look at this report and need to be the ones that are sounding the horn. They need to be going to their school districts and school officials and telling them that they want to see this information on line."

This is one of the first studies like this done in the country.
