OKLAHOMA CITY -- A metro cab company is in trouble for refusing to give some customers rides. Leaders in Oklahoma City have suspended A-1 Taxi Service's right to work in the city for one year.

Next week, A-1's owners are asking the city council to overturn the suspension. According to code, the city can suspend a cab company's license "if the owner refuses to accept a request for service while having vehicles and drivers available."

The investigation began after one senior citizen told police the company refused to give her a ride.

"She said I really can't help you, because we don't normally come to Oklahoma City and when we do we prefer to go certain places," said Paula Appleseth.

"Taxi cab drivers are independent contractors. They work when they want where they want," said A-1 founder Ken Harrison.

The decision to suspend A-1's right to run in Oklahoma City came from the traffic commission.

The city council will vote on A-1's appeal on Tuesday.
