TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Members of the Kansas National Guard were heading to schools and other venues throughout the state to take part in Veterans Day celebrations.

Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, who is the state's adjutant general, was scheduled to attend an event Wednesday at Jardine Middle School in Topeka.

Many of the events statewide are hosted by local veterans organizations, with remarks and color guards provided by local members of the National Guard. A Black Hawk helicopter will fly over a celebration in Lenexa.

Most state and federal offices will be closed for the day.
