OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Republicans have settled on their congressional nominees.

Now the party hopes to ride a wave of anti-Washington sentiment to retain control of one U.S. House seat and target a second in Democrat-leaning eastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma GOP now turns to 42-year-old political newcomer James Lankford to take the open 5th District U.S. House seat in Oklahoma City and a 47-year-old veterinarian from Hulbert to challenge a three-term Democratic incumbent in the 2nd District.

New Oklahoma GOP Chairman Matt Pinnell says he's excited about Lankford and Dr. Charles Thompson — the Republicans' nominees in the 5th and 2nd districts.

Pinnell acknowledges a difficult challenge in the 2nd District, where Thompson faces three-term incumbent Democrat Dan Boren.
